Crash Messages in SketchUp

When SketchUp crashes there are a few things to take a look at that may help:

  • System settings or compatibility issues
  • An error in your SketchUp installation or an extension
  • A problem with a model’s file or a plugin
  • Outdated graphics drivers or graphics hardware

To help troubleshoot these issues, we’ve listed a few examples and some tips to help you get things up and running again.

System Requirements & CompatibilityHardware Requirements Not MetCheck SketchUp's minimum system requirements and make sure your system meets each category, especially RAM and graphics card capabilities.
Incompatible Operating SystemSupported versions of SketchUp are only approved for use with certain operating systems. Make sure the one you are using is compatible.
Temporary GlitchesReboot your computer.
Graphics Cards and SoftwareOutdated or Corrupted DriversReview the information in Graphics and Performance and make sure your hardware and software is up to date.
Graphics Engine ErrorsTry switching to the "Classic" graphics engine in SketchUp's settings.
Conflicts with Other ApplicationsClose out any other applications that might conflict with SketchUp, such as anti-virus software or other resource-intensive programs.
SketchUp Software IssuesOutdated Software VersionMake sure you have the latest version of SketchUp installed.
Corrupted InstallationFor Windows users, you can attempt to repair your installation of SketchUp. MacOS users should reinstall SketchUp.
"BugSplat" ErrorsFill out the information in the BugSplat form and include screenshots and logs if possible.
Model and Plugin IssuesLarge and Complex ModelsOptimize your model. Some great tips appear in Improving Performance.
Incompatible or Outdated Plugins/ExtensionsDisable or uninstall plugins one by one to identify any problematic ones.
Autosave ConflictsCheck your autosave settings. When set up incorrectly, they can cause conflicts with files stored on a network drive or in cloud storage like Trimble Connect.
Corrupted Model FilesTry opening a backup copy or creating a new model to see if the issue persists.
