Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) adds additional layers of security used to verify your identity when logging into SketchUp. Your Trimble ID uses two factors of authentication – your username and password, and a verification code based on the MFA method associated with your account. All Trimble accounts are required to use at least one method of MFA. To make sure you can always access your account, SketchUp recommends setting up more than one, just in case you lose access to your primary chosen MFA method.

Note: If you created your account using a 3rd party sign-in option, like Google, Apple or Microsoft, those third parties manage how you login and follow MFA standards specific to that platform. If your organization manages your login credentials, you will need to contact your administrator to manage your MFA settings or other account information.

When creating a Trimble ID you are asked to protect your account with one or more MFA methods. For more information on how each method works, how to login with your chosen MFA method, and instructions on how to add to or change the methods you’ve chosen, take a look at the following articles:

  • Adding or Disabling Multi-Factor Authentication – Learn how to add or change your MFA method on your profile page.
  • Mandatory One Time Passcode (OTP) – Sends a one-time passcode to the email address associated with your Trimble Account. OTP is the default MFA method and enabled on all accounts when no other MFA methods are chosen.
  • Authenticator App – An application that generates a one-time authorization code. Examples include Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Passkeys – An encrypted digital key that uses biometrics or a PIN to verify your identity.
  • Secondary Email – Designates an email other than the one associated with your account that will receive a one-time passcode each time you login.
  • Recovering Your Account - Use backup codes as a secure account recovery option if you lose access to your MFA methods.
