A common issue V-Ray users may encounter is a failure when activating their V-Ray license in SketchUp Studio. This happens when a user previously installed V-Ray on their device using a different email than the one they use for their SketchUp subscription.

If you experience this error, you'll need to sign out and uninstall the Chaos license server on your device by following these steps:

Note: You must have an active SketchUp Studio subscription or Trial to use V-Ray with SketchUp.
  1. Open your Admin Console.
  2. Navigate to Products & Licenses and click your Studio entitlement from the list.
  3. In the list of users, click the X next to that user to remove their license.
  4.
  5. Wait around 5 minutes. Click Assign License and reassign the license to the same user.
  6. Open your preferred web browser and navigate to http://localhost:30304 to open the Chaos License Server.
  7. Click Online Licensing at the top of the page and click Sign Out.
  8. Navigate to https://accounts.chaos.com/trimble/login and click Continue with Trimble and sign in using your Trimble ID.
  9.
  10. Return to SketchUp and sign out of your account.
  11. Immediately sign back into SketchUp. Your V-Ray license is now activated in SketchUp Studio!

If this didn't solve the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall the Chaos License Server.
  2. Open your File Explorer and navigate to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Chaos\VRLService
  3. Delete the folder named "ssl".
  4. Download the Chaos License Server from their help documentation site.
  5. Install the Chaos License Server. During installation choose Customize and uncheck Activate during installation.
  6. Choose Ignore for any error messages during installation.
  7. Once installation is complete, open http://localhost:30304 in your web browser.
  8. Sign in using your Trimble ID.
  9. Activate online licensing with your account.
