Offset Tool

When you create a 3D model, you often need to draw a slightly bigger or smaller version of a shape and keep the two shapes equidistant from each other. In SketchUp for iPad you can do this with the Offset tool (). Here's a few ways you can use the Offset tool:

• Drawing a floor plan: A floor plan typically shows both interior and exterior walls. Draw one set of walls and then use the Offset tool to draw the second set.
• Drawing a profile: To create a 3D model of a bowl or vase, for example, you can draw the lines and curves to create the basic shape and then offset that shape so your profile has a uniform depth.
• Drawing an overhang: A house's eaves are typically equidistant from the exterior walls. With those walls in place, you can easily draw the outline for the eaves with the Offset tool.

iPad Input Methods for the Offset Tool

After choosing the Offset tool you can use one of the iPad input methods in either Click-Move-Click or Just Draw mode to get started.

Tip: You can enter an exact offset length using the Measurements box while drawing no matter which input method you decide to use.

Click Move Click

Apple Pencil or Multitouch - Long press to begin the operation. When you see a circle appear under the tip, drag to create your offset.

Mouse or Touchpad - Click and drag to create your offset.

Just Draw

Apple Pencil or Multitouch - Long press until you see a circle appear under the tip to set your reference point. Lift, then long press and drag to create your offset.

Mouse or Touchpad - Click and drag to create your offset.
