Minimizing Geometry
Keep your polygon count to a minimum to represent the dimensions of the object accurately. Every face adds to the file size of the model.
Common ways to reduce the polygon count in your model include:
- Keep arc and circle segmentation to a minimum. Segmentation can make other operations more complex.
- Limit the file size to only what the person who downloads the model will see. Use X-Ray mode or turn on Hidden Geometry to view and remove any unwanted internal geometry.
- Purge unused geometry.
- Simulate thickness on a face by adding layers of Materials.
Avoid turning off or hiding edges. This will not simplify the geometry because the edges are still there. Instead, Soften or Smooth the edges to get the same effect with fewer polygons.
