What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires users to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to their Trimble account. MFA enhances security by requiring something you know, like a password, and something you have, like a verification code.
Am I required to use MFA?
MFA enhances security for your account, providing an additional layer of protection beyond just a password. Trimble requires all SketchUp users to use MFA to protect their account. By requiring a second form of verification, Trimble helps ensure that even if your password is stolen or guessed, your account remains secure. MFA helps mitigate risks associated with phishing attacks, password breaches, and other unauthorized account access.
How do I enable MFA for my Trimble ID?
SketchUp users are required to have at least one form of MFA enabled. By default, Trimble will use a one-time password as your MFA method. If you wish to add or change your MFA method, you can do so on your My Profile page. For more information on how to enable MFA, along with the available types of MFA, see Multi-Factor Authentication.
Where can I find the available MFA options?
You can find all available MFA options in My Profile. You will see your options listed under Account Management on the right side of the page. If your login information is managed by your company, not all options may be available.
How do I know if MFA is set up on my account?
All SketchUp users are required to have at least one MFA method enabled. If you haven’t set one up, Trimble will use the One Time Passcode method by default.
Do I need to set up MFA for my Trimble account if I use 3rd party sign-in?
If you login to your account using Apple, Google, or Microsoft, they already have their own MFA policies in place. For more information on logging in with one of those options, see 3rd Party Sign-In Options.
What methods can I use for MFA?
Trimble ID supports the following MFA methods:
Can I disable MFA?
SketchUp users are required to have at least one form of MFA enabled. You can change the method you use, but you can’t disable all forms of MFA for your account.
I use a One Time Passcode as my MFA method. What happens if I don’t receive the code in my email?
If you don't receive the verification code, check your spam or junk email folder. If you don’t see it there, you can attempt to resend the code after 60 seconds by clicking Resend Code on the login screen. If you have checked your spam folders and resent the code and are still having issues, contact our support team.
What if I am locked out of my account or can’t access my MFA method?
When you set up MFA, Trimble provides backup codes to help you recover your account if you are locked out or lose access to your MFA method. For more information on how to use those recovery codes, see Recovering Your Account.
Do I need to use MFA every time I access SketchUp?
When logging in using the One-Time Passcode MFA method, you can select Remember This Device on the login screen. When selected, that option allows you to skip MFA when logging in from the same device for the next 30 days. After 30 days, or if you clear your browser cache and cookies, you will need to use MFA to login again. Other MFA methods require you to use them each time you login.
