Passkeys are encrypted digital keys you can use as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method for your Trimble ID. For information on how to set up a passkey, see Passkeys.
To help avoid issues with your passkeys, here are some best practices we use here at SketchUp:
- Save your recovery codes. Trimble provides you with recovery codes when setting up the MFA method for your account. For more information, see Recovering Your Account.
- Set up multiple passkeys. If you can, set up passkeys on different devices in case you lose access to one.
- Set up alternate MFA methods. For more information on how you can add another MFA method, see Adding or Disabling Multi-Factor Authentication.
If you do end up having issues, we’ve listed a few common issues below and how to approach them.
I received a message that I can’t set up a passkey on my device.
There are a few reasons you may not be able to set up a passkey:
- You must be using a compatible device running software capable of creating a passkey. If you are on an older device, or using an outdated operating system, you won’t be able to set up a passkey on that device.
- If your account is managed by your organization, their policies may not allow for passkey creation. Check with your account administrator for more information on your organization’s policies.
- Running multiple applications capable of managing your passkeys can block passkey creation. Disable any application you don’t want to use for authentication when creating a passkey.
I no longer have access to the device I use for my passkey.
Trimble recommends you set up multiple MFA methods when you create your account. If you no longer have access to your passkey, login at myprofile.trimble.com using an alternate MFA method and remove the passkey you can’t access.
I can’t access the device I use for my passkey and don’t have an alternate MFA method.
If you don’t have access to an alternate MFA method, try signing in with your password instead of passkey. You may have One-Time-Passcode secondary authentication in place. If not, use the backup codes provided when you first set up MFA on your account. For more information on these codes, see Recovering Your Account.
I don’t have access to the recovery codes provided to me when I set up MFA for my account.
If you don’t have the recovery codes for your account, reach out to our support team. Include all of your account information, what MFA methods you’ve set up, and any supporting information we can use to help you get back into your account.
I set up a passkey but can’t use the Use a passkey option on the login page.
There are two types of passkeys you can use to protect your account. The first is a standalone passkey that acts as both your password and MFA method. The second is an MFA method used after entering your password. In your My Profile page, you can manage both your standalone passkeys and MFA methods.
If you can’t use the Use a passkey option to access your account, try logging in with your password and then using your passkey as an MFA method.
